And again

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

A little tentatively, I went for my first keiko in nearly 3 weeks after the injury. And it was good. The foot was fine, didn’t play up during practise at all, and didn’t really come back afterwards either. It was “there” but not painful. Thank god. Iced it up just in case though. I reckon I’m going to be on the taping, stretching and icing gig for a long time, probably at least until after the world champs. At least.

At any rate, it felt awesome being back at keiko. I got a great men in a stupidly long ippon shoubu (15 minutes….) with Yasui sensei, a big young nanadan who always gives me a great bash (loves a chin wag after keiko though…) which is always a great morale booster, and helps dispel the “What if I’ve forgotten it all and become shite” worries. I have lost a huge chunk of stamina though so I’m going to need to work to get that back. Poo.

No thank you

On my way to the office yesterday morning I passed an old-ish looking dude wearing an odd-white/grey hat, with the legend “UP YOUR ARSE” written in flowing gothic script.

Classy

Hurty foot

So it’s been a little while since I wrote anything on here, almost 3 weeks. About 3 days after my last post I developed Plantar Fasciitis in my left leg. It’s pretty much sorted itself out now but for safety’s sake I’m giving it a few more days just to make sure. Plusses, I’ve had a good rest for 2 weeks now, minusses, I’ve got A LOT of pent up aggression…..my first keiko back is going to be a huge release, like your first wank for a week.

Having Plantar Fasciitis sucks. It’s one of those things that can last a really long time if it’s not sorted properly, so I basically stopped keiko as soon as I figured out what it was (WKC this year, don’t want to fuck that up for stupid stubborn “I’m not injured” attitudes….) and set to with the ice, stretches and massage everyday, but dam, no keiko sucks. My heart actually beats faster now when I think of kendo. Thank god I’m back next week….

On the plus side, Emi and Axel are finally back from the out laws this weekend, so I get to play with my baby every day now, which I can’t wait for. I gave him a bath for the first time last weekend (for me, not him!) which was pretty fun actually, apart from when he did his Caesar’s Palace impression again and pee’ed on my hands and his clothes. Little fu….a…rascal….
